THE TOUR GIRLS COLOURING BOOK

Final Submission Date: 24/03/07

Tour Girls In The 23rd Century is a series designed for everyone to enjoy. As a result, BSP has decided to combine two things that we're passionate about into a single entity: Our graphictacular comic books and getting unknown artists exposure! The result of that combination? A colouring book based off the universe that Tour Girls is set in!

How does it work? Simple! This isn't really a contest at all - It's a complilation of lineart provided by as many willing artists as we can get the word out to in the period of time before the closing date!

The catch? Well, there isn't one! And the perks are well worth entering! Everyone who enters gets free exposure all over New Zealand - and maybe, eventually, all over the world! Big companies pay thousands of dollars for the kind of exposure BSP is offering to fellow comic book style artists - absolutely free!

Too good to be true, right? Nope! Keep reading for more information!

Rewards

Since this is a compilation, not a contest, there aren't any prizes for entering. But there are rewards, because we're not ashamed to reward people that work hard! There are three rewards for the people who submit to the Tour Girls Colouring Book and get selected as feature artists, besides having a full page spread of their artwork:

  • The Intangible: Free advertising! Invaluable to any budding artist, and just plain cool!
  • The Tangible: A free copy of the next issue of Tour Girls!
  • The AWESOME: A free copy of the colouring book, signed by Tour Girls creator, V.L. Dreyer!

Three prizes, just for one drawing or activity? Easy as pie! And if you don't make is as a feature artist, you still get rewarded! Just for entering, every person will get two rewards:

  • Honourable mention inside the back cover of the book,
  • Free advertising! Yay!

But wait, that's not all! On top of the already awesome rewards, anyone who submits an entry is entitled to a 10% discount off the retail price of any additional copies of the Tour Girls Colouring Book they purchase, and a 10% discount off the cover price of ANY other Blue Scar Productions books they purchase at the same time!

How To Enter

Characters and Concepts

A basic overview of the Tour Girls series as a whole can be found in the Comics Section.

The Story So Far:

Tour Girls In The 23rd Century is a sci-fi comedy set in New Zealand, starring Milla Monda and Jane "Jax" Doe, tour guides working for the Tour Girls Guide Company owned by Milla's father, Big Jim.

One day, after dropping a bus full of tourists off with a pair of their co-workers at Whenuwaka National Park in the snowy Southern Alps, Milla and Jax head off for lunch. But their quest for coffee and icecream goes horribly wrong when they find themselves driving head long into a rift through space and time - and into the 23rd century! (Issue #0 and #1: Redux)

When they come to, they find themselves on an island in the middle of the ocean, with no sign of the alps - or their bus! They're not alone, though. There, they meet Gippa the Geppie, a strange little creature with a big nose and bigger personality! While exploring their new surroundings, the girls notice an ominous rumbling... and are forced to flee for shelter from a massive tsunami wave! Meanwhile, somewhere nearby, eyes watch on. The eyes of would-be heroes (Arkitur and Brother Anxiety) who intent on rescuing our stranded heroines from the clutches of an even worse foe stirring behind the scenes! (Issue #1 First Printing and #1: Redux)

Unpertubed by tidal waves and bewildered hu-mans, Gippa makes a reappearance safe and sound... until the girls encounter the only natural enemy of the Geppie - The talkative ten-year-old boy! In a case of mistaken identity, the boy cheerfully informs our heroines of where they are... and when they are! Their shock at discovering that they're no longer in 1998, but in 2298, after a great war two hundred years past drove the world into a flooded age is interruped by the arrival of enemy soldiers. Lead by Lt. Brash at the command of the mysterious and villainous Lt. Hein, the soldiers arrest the girls despite Jax's protests, and lead them off to prison! (Issue #2)

The Characters:

You can choose to illustrate any one of more of the following main characters:

  • Jane "Jax" Doe
  • Milla Monda
  • Gippa the Geppie
  • Arkitur Demores
  • Brother Anxiety
  • Sam Rashhart
  • Cmdr. Klint Hein
  • Sgt.Stephani
  • Lt. Brash

Your entry can feature any combination of the above characters in any scene you choose that is applicable to the Tour Girls universe. You can also choose to include 'secondary' or unnamed characters, if you choose. Examples:
  • Other members of the Tour Girls Guide Company
  • Lt. Brash's Elite Troopers
  • Miscellaneous Geppies (Genetically Engineered Pets, hybrids of today's animals.)
  • Etcetera.

The scenes don't have to be accurate to the storyline. If you want, you can have a picture of Milla, Jax, and Gippa standing in front of the bus in today's times - It's up to you! There are lots of ideas you can consider using, and lots of props you can play with as well!

  • The Tour Girls 001 Bus
  • Coffee and Icecream
  • The uniforms - Try and keep them close enough, but you can mix and match a bit!
  • Brother Anxiety's Super Duper Awesome Black Hole Weapon Thing
  • The Neurotoxin Pistols
  • Elite Trooper armour
  • Hats! Yay for hats!

If you choose to draw a background, there's lots to pick from, including but not limited to the following. Feel free to get creative!

  • New Zealand's Southern Alps
  • The Future's watery surface.
  • The Future's strange tower structures
  • The Future's prisons (Keep an eye out for demo pages from #3!)
  • ...And anything else fun you can think of!

Conditions of Entry

Well, it's unfriendly but it's legally necessary, so here we go with the boring stuff:

Submissions must not contain offensive material, including but not limited to pornographic material, excessive nudity or violence, or anything inappropriate to being seen by minors. If you wouldn't show it to your own kids (or your grandma if you don't have kids), it's probably not appropriate, and will not be printed as a result! If you're unsure, contact us before you begin and we'll inform you of how likely we are to agree to your idea!

The Graphic Editor of the Tour Girls Colouring Book may alter your entries slightly if they are selected for publication, but will do everything in her power to keep your artwork true to your art style. Edits will be limited to 1) Resizing and resampling, 2) General cleanup, specifically to ensure that the lines are as clean as possible for printing, and the removing of ink-speckling, smudges, and line-fuzz, 3) Sometimes, the addition of a frame or border to establish the continuity of the book, and/or 4) Removal of small features that might be offensive to the public or dangerous to the artist from an otherwise awesome entry. Don't be surprised if your entry changes a teeny bit - Any editing is just to make sure that your art prints as awesome as possible! Signatures and/or personal/business symbols will be left intact.

Submitting to the Tour Girls Colouring Book does NOT entitle the artist to any royalties from the sale of the book, and entrants are assumed to have accepted these terms. By submitting, entrants agree to allow Blue Scar Productions limited rights to reproduce their work in the Tour Girls Colouring Book, and on the BSP website in the interest of advertising the competition. Entries will be considered fanart and classified as such unless permission is explicitly revoked by the artist at the time of submission. "Rewards" are limited one per entry, and discount is not culminative with multiple entries. However, we will love you forever and maybe even give you a hug. No promises, though!

The "Tour Girls In The 23rd Century" #1 and #2 e-books provided as rewards for this contest are provided on the agreement with the entrant that they will not be reproduced in any way not authorised by Blue Scar Productions. This includes but is not limited to unauthorised reproduction and distribution in whole or in part without the express permission of Blue Scar Productions. Books may be forwarded to other potential entrants with the permission of Blue Scar Productions, and only then. Please contact us at info@bluescar.co.nz for permission.

Blue Scar Productions will not distribute or sell your information, and your contact details will only be used within the scope of the contest as described above. You may, however, opt to sign up for our newsletter upon submitting, in which case we will contact you as described in the Newsletter Terms and Conditions.

Blue Scar Productions reserves the final right of judgement in whether to print any submissions. If your image is not printed for some reason, rest assured that there's a good reason behind it, and we appologise.
